Vladimir Putin has reportedly called up Donald Trump and Xi Jinping to meet next month to negotiate an end to his illegal invasion of Ukraine without Volodymyr Zelensky

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has reportedly proposed he meet with Donald Trump and China’s Xi Jinping for a summit on Ukraine next month.

The Russian president is said to be trying to negotiate an end to the illegal invasion he started in 2022 that would be more beneficial to Moscow, sources have claimed. It was reported that Putin called both Washington and Beijing to suggest the trilateral meeting on the side of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Shenzhen, China, on November 18-19.

Trump has since said he would meet Putin and Xi on Ukraine but would be more interested in discussing “denuclearisation”.

This comes as tensions between Trump and Zelensky heightened with the US President saying it was time for “somebody else” to lead peace talks for Ukraine.

Trump also dealt a huge blow to Kyiv when he lifted sanctions on Russian diesel exports. The US leader said Russia would supply the US and global markets this month with more than 300,000 metric tonnes of diesel, with another 500,000 tonnes to be supplied in November.

Putin called Trump and Xi on October 9 to float the idea of a meeting, according to the Wall Street Journal. China is said to have reached out to “US counterparts” to discuss the desire for such a meeting.

Trump however has said he would be open to meeting Putin and Xi but added that he would have other topics to discuss including Iran.

The US president, speaking to reporters on Monday, said: “Anything I can do to end the war, whether somebody’s there or not.” He added: “If President Xi wants to have it, I’d have it. I’m sure we’d talk about other things like trade too. But yeah, I would do that.”

Trump also suggested however that he would be more interested in speaking about “denuclearisation” with the Chinese and Russian leaders. He even seemed to suggest Ukraine would be a priority in the potential talks, adding: “Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven’t been doing much.”

He added that both Russia and China had done “very little” for Tehran, as the US leader continues his military efforts despite the growing unpopularity of the war in the US.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said a meeting between the three leaders was discussed “hypothetically”. He also claimed that “no substantive proposals or agreements” for the meeting were discussed or put forward by either of the countries.

Despite Trump’s claims that Moscow “haven’t been doing much” in the war, at least seven people were killed after Russia unleashed another missile and drone blitz of civilian areas in Ukraine, officials have said.

Three people were killed and six wounded in the Obukhiv district, where warehouses were damaged, police said. In the Bucha district, one woman was killed and 21 people were wounded, eight of them children, and hundreds of buildings were damaged, according to police.

On Tuesday morning, three people were killed and four injured when two vehicles caught fire in a Russian attack on the Kyiv-Odesa motorway, Ukraine’s state emergency service said. The bus transports people from Kyiv to the national military memorial cemetery.
